SLYLA is Implementing US Lacrosse's Small Sided Game Rules
As I'm sure many of you have seen, US Lacrosse is making dramatic changes and implementing youth rules that would allow for smaller sided games at most youth levels. Your SLYLA board has been discussing these rule changes internally as well as with several of our league program directors at the offseason meetings held over the last several months. Your SLYLA board wants to make sure everyone is aware that based on these meetings, it is the leagues' intention to play under these rules starting in the spring of 2017. This will mean for most age groups, among many other things, smaller numbers of players on the field, smaller fields and goals as well as smaller rosters.
Expect to see more Board Members on SLYLA Game Days checking compliance with league eligibility rules. All of the coaches and players on the field on game day should be listed on the team roster on the SLYLA website. Board members (in the white shirts) will be checking team rosters the first day of games. In addition, all the coaches should have a coach laynard showing their coaching credentials. We are asking the officals to enforce coaching credentials this year. The rule is simple: no laynard, no coaching. If you have questions, feel free to talk to any board member you see on game days.
